R Ritchie

The late Robert Ritchie was born in Ashington, Northumberland where he had a deep-rooted interest in painting since early childhood. After leaving school Robert tried a variety of jobs including factory work and farming. In 1974 Robert made a break from full-time employment in order to concentrate on his painting. A self-taught artist, Robert worked in oils and drew his inspiration from the Northumbrian countryside. Robert was a keen fell walker and had a comprehensive knowledge of the Lakeland fells. He was fascinated by light effects on landscape and was particularly known for his atmospheric snow scenes. His paintings are collected throughout the British Isles.
