Jenny McLaren is a mixed media artist who spends much of her time outdoors, making notes on the flora, fauna and landscape. She likes to draw and paint “en plein air” because she says it provides her with a direct connection to the landscape and the living things in it. She seeks out wild and quiet spots to get inspired, and records eye-catching things in notes, sketches, photographs or paintings on paper or wood board. She then uses these notes as inspirational material for hew artwork. Jenny uses pages from vintage natural history books, maps and old photographs, thinking carefully about which parts of them she wants to use before starting to paint on them herself.
