The late Robert Ritchie was born in Ashington, Northumberland where he had a deep-rooted interest in painting since early childhood. After leaving school Robert tried a variety of jobs including factory work and farming.

In 1974 Robert made a break from full-time employment in order to concentrate on his painting. A self-taught artist, Robert worked in oils and drew his inspiration from the Northumbrian countryside. Robert was a keen fell walker and had a comprehensive knowledge of the Lakeland fells. He was fascinated by light effects on landscape and was particularly known for his atmospheric snow scenes. His paintings are collected throughout the UK.
