The late Tony Lees developed his own unique style and colour palette using watercolour paints. His interpretation of the Lake District was influenced by his memories of industrial Lancashire where he was born. Much of his work focused on rural Lakeland buildings, loosely painting in the familiar Lakeland landscape of fells, stonewalls and herdwick sheep in abstracted forms. Fell walking was a great inspiration to Tony and during long walks he would note the different effects of the sun, shadows and varying weather conditions on the landscape, which he worked to capture in his paintings to give feeling to the landscape. Despite no formal training, Tony became an accomplished and much admired artist. Tony’s family continue to publish his fine art prints
